Finding Presence – Holding Space

Finding Presence – Holding Space

There is so much suffering in the world and it can be hard to know what to do. All of us have limited time and resources but Holding Space is a unique way of showing up and giving support.

Yet witnessing someone else’s pain can be quite difficult. When confronted with a situation we can not change, many of us realize that simply holding space is harder than we imagined.

This difficult and delicate challenge will be the focus for the next Finding Presence event on Thursday, July 16, at 8PM ET, where we will explore what it really means to hold space.

In order to truly hold space for someone, we need to offer a safe place where that person can open to their own process. A safe space allows a person to meet the fear, loss, and dark places of the soul, and not feel judged in any way. Before we can really do this for others, it’s important to be able to be able to hold space for ourselves.

Very often, our first instinct is to try to fix the other person’s situation. Bearing witness to pain, especially the pain of someone we love, is hard. We want them to feel better. Often, our own pain gets reflected in what we see in others. Without realizing it, we may impose our ideas of what we think that person should do and judge their process. We end up having a secret agenda to end the suffering for our loved one so that we can erase the suffering in our own lives. When we do this, we unknowingly send a message that a challenging experience needs resolution and that it is not safe to simply feel the pain.

Yet Holding Space can be transformative, both for the person bearing witness, and the one in their process. When we are able to offer compassion for ourselves, we become capable of extending it to the world.

Join VortexHealing® teacher, Lorraine Goldbloom, for this very special Finding Presence event about holding space. We will use a guided inquiry to explore what it means to hold space, and how our own agendas prevent us from holding space for ourselves and others. The evening will finish with a healing to support the process of holding space–for ourselves, loved ones, and the world.
